David Harsanyi: No One Is Above the Law? Give Me a Break
Don’t tell me that” no one is above the law ,” but do engage Donald Trump up or not. One of the most absurd imaginations promoted by the left is this one.
Many individuals live” above the act.” James Clapper is exempt from the law because he lied to Congress under vow about spying on Americans. John Brennan is exempt from the law because he lied about a home snooping operation on Senate employees. Eric Holder, the attorney general of Obama, would never be handcuffed and imprisoned for disobeying a parliamentary lawsuit, unlike Trump adviser Peter Navarro. The legislation is not against him.
Hillary Clinton, Trump’s’s 2016 rival, is also exempt from the law. To avoid being open about her slush fund basis, the then-secretary of think set up a personal server in her home. She sent 110 emails with marked classified material, and 36 of those letters had underground information in them. There was” top secret” information in eight of the email chains. Each of those incidents could have resulted in a misdemeanor that could result in up to 10 years in prison.

Democrats claimed that puritanical liberals were hardly pursuing Bill because of some fabricated charge over” sex” when Hillary’s’s husband, who was also above the law, lied under oath. According to this reasoning, Stormy Daniels'” calm money”- related campaign finance accusations against Trump already center on sex. This is unique because Trump is the ghost and everyone is aware of his criminal activity. Getting that countenance shot is what matters.
However, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi advises against worrying because” everyone has the right to a test to establish ignorance.” She means Republicans when she says” folks.” And you haven’t been paying attention if you believe that this totalitarian development is an emergency. Sen. Mazie Hirono was questioned about whether the then-candidate deserved the” same presumption of innocence as anyone else in America” when Democrats were accusing Brett Kavanaugh of being a( gang ) rapist some time ago. After all, this wasn’t about a legal dispute; rather, it was about purported legal tendencies. I put his defence in the context of everyone I know about him in terms of how he approaches his cases, the Hawaii senator retorted.
In other words, if you’re’re a conservative, your politics are bad, and vice versa. When Kamala Harris read blatant untruths about Kavanaugh into the Congressional Record, I imagine that was the justification she used. It is probably Lois Lerner or Merrick Garland’s’s justification, both above the law, when they used government agencies as weapons against political rivals. It is almost certainly Alvin Bragg, the Manhattan District Attorney, justification. This explains why the modern left is getting more and more comfortable using the position to condemn and eliminate political rivals. Most progressives view the legal system as a means of enforcing artistic social justice as well as criminal justice, if that makes sense.
Despite having perfectly valid political arguments against Trump, we have been on a violent journey that has led us from blaming him for some flimsy, seven-year-old campaign finance violation charge to accusing Trump of being an subversive actor working on the orders of an hostile foreign government— the most popular conspiracy theory had concocted in American politics. Giving a video star” quiet money” is immoral, not against the law. Are Coney just going to be in the market of accusing political rivals who spent$ 30,000 on the incorrect side of the ledger during a race that cost hundreds of millions of dollars? I anticipate that this kind of judge will be administered every bit.
Of course, anyone is aware of what will occur if and when Republicans return the favor. fascist cries, that’s’s what. However, the procedure is still severely harmed by the modern left’s’s absolute and growing contempt for any sort of limiting concepts— the kind of misuse that initially helped Trump win the presidency. Trump is a simple goal. I can tell you that a Republican who is even” worse than Trump” will be the next goal. And the arguments for abolishing standards to put a stop to them will be the same.
Conservatives who claim that Democrats didn’t like the locations where the Trump indictment leads are likely casting some wishes. The people in charge of our primary organizations aren’t overly concerned about immediate threats of retaliation. Liberals also adore Calvinball, a” program” of consistently shifting norms that rewards those who are most willing to exercise power. That is the purpose.
