Rep. Dan Crenshaw Slams U.S. Government for “Epic Failure of Leadership” in Search for Missing Submersible

The U.S. government is facing harsh criticism from Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) for what he calls an “epic failure of leadership” in the ongoing search for OceanGates’ missing Titan submersible.

In a recent interview, Crenshaw expressed his frustration after U.S. officials confirmed that the vessel had imploded, tragically resulting in the loss of all five crew members.

According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, the U.S. Navy had actually detected the implosion using a top-secret military acoustic detection system designed to locate enemy submarines.

Speaking to reporters on the Capitol steps, Crenshaw pointed out that this incident highlights a significant failure in leadership, although he couldn’t pinpoint whether the blame lies with the White House, the Navy, or the U.S. Coast Guard.

As a former Navy SEAL, Crenshaw emphasized that the critical error in leadership was the delayed deployment of U.S. assets, specifically a 6K ROV and a Magellan submarine, in the rescue efforts.

“It’s important to note that if these assets had been deployed earlier, they could have arrived at the scene by Wednesday morning at the latest,” Crenshaw stated. “Throughout Wednesday, there were reports of tapping sounds, indicating signs of life. However, it wasn’t until this morning that the 6K ROV, the only equipment capable of reaching that depth, was finally deployed. And guess what? The wreckage was exactly where they expected it to be. So where did the failure occur? The failure lies in not exploring all available options.”

Industry experts informed Crenshaw that the implosion sound detected by the Navy could have simply been the sub hitting the ocean floor.

“When you combine that with the tapping sounds, which were apparently SOS signals being sent every half hour on Tuesday and Wednesday, it raises the question: Could this tragedy have been averted if leadership had acted sooner and considered all possible solutions? Unfortunately, it doesn’t matter now because they’re all gone,” Crenshaw added.
