Buffalo Bills Safety Damar Hamlin Presents Pat Tillman Award for Service

Emotions ran high as Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin took the stage at the ESPY Awards to present the prestigious Pat Tillman Award for Service. This award is named after the former Arizona Cardinal who selflessly left his professional football career to serve as a United States Army Ranger, ultimately losing his life in Afghanistan.

The deserving recipients of the award were the Buffalo Bills training staff, who came to Hamlin’s rescue when he collapsed and suffered a cardiac arrest during a Monday night game against the Cincinnati Bengals in January. Their swift response and life-saving actions earned them this honor.

He expressed his gratitude towards the training staff, acknowledging their expertise, composure, and dedication to serving others.

“Thanks to their training, their poise, and their commitment to serve others, the Bills training staff kept me alive,” Hamlin shared. “Neither I nor the training staff anticipated that I would need them to save my life that day. But that’s the remarkable thing about humanity – any of us can rise to the occasion and perform incredible acts, like saving a life and living a life in service of others. It’s truly a blessing.”

As the video concluded, tears streamed down Hamlin’s face. The audience rose to their feet, applauding and cheering as the training staff took the stage.

“Damar, first and foremost, thank you for staying alive, brother,” Head Athletic Trainer Nate Breske expressed on behalf of the staff. “We are incredibly honored to stand here with such a resilient and courageous individual.”
