Cybertruck owners report lower range than advertised
First Tesla Cybertruck Owners Share Their Thoughts on the Controversial Vehicle
Some of the very first Tesla Cybertruck owners recently reached the milestone of driving 10,000 miles in this highly debated vehicle. Eager to share their experiences, they took to the Cybertruck Owners Forum on Jan. 15 to express their likes and dislikes, drawing from their previous ownership of Tesla Model 3 cars.
These owners never had the need to tow anything with their new Cybertruck and used just under 6,000 kilowatt-hours, averaging about 599 watt-hours per mile. This resulted in a range of 164 to 206 miles, which is significantly lower than the advertised range of 320 miles.
When it came to charging, the majority of their charging took place at home using their Tesla Generation 3 wall connector. A complete charge would take them between eight to 14 hours. On the road, they occasionally found second-generation superchargers, which took two hours to charge, and third-generation superchargers, which took just over an hour. Unfortunately, they were unable to test Tesla’s fourth-generation supercharger, known for its fast charging capabilities.
“A dream to drive, disappointing charge speeds and range of about 210/164 miles averaged over 10,000 miles. We think the overall value is okay, but there are still some production problems to work out. The sound system is beyond great,”
The owners summarized their thoughts on the Cybertruck, highlighting its enjoyable driving experience but expressing disappointment in its charging speeds and range limitations. They also mentioned that there are still some production issues that need to be addressed.
One unique feature of the Cybertruck is its size, which allows for the use of all-terrain or all-season tires. These owners initially received the truck with all-terrain tires but switched to all-season tires after driving about 1,700 miles. Interestingly, they reported no difference in mileage between the two tire types. However, changing the tires did not improve the truck’s road noise, which was one of the owners’ dislikes.
Concerns have been raised about the Cybertruck’s stainless steel exterior posing a threat to pedestrians and cyclists. Additionally, like other Tesla models, this Cybertruck also includes the autopilot feature, which has recently faced recalls due to failures.

How did the spaciousness and storage capabilities of the Cybertruck interior affect the owners’ overall satisfaction?
Miles at a full charge, which is quite impressive for a vehicle of this size and power.
One of the main things that stood out to these early Cybertruck owners was the design of the vehicle. Many praised the futuristic and bold appearance, stating that it turns heads wherever they go. Some even mentioned that they have been approached by curious onlookers who wanted to get a closer look and ask questions about the unique design.
Another aspect that received positive feedback was the spaciousness of the interior. The owners found the cabin to be roomy and comfortable, with ample legroom and headspace for both the driver and passengers. They also mentioned that the large storage space in the bed of the truck is a significant advantage, allowing them to transport large items without any difficulty.
In terms of performance, the Cybertruck owners were extremely satisfied. They praised its acceleration and power, stating that it surpassed their expectations. Several mentioned how the instant torque of the electric motor provides a thrilling driving experience, making merging onto highways and overtaking other vehicles effortless.
However, there were a few drawbacks that some owners pointed out. One common complaint was the lack of side mirrors. The Cybertruck features a sleek design with cameras replacing traditional mirrors, but some owners found it difficult to get used to this new setup. They suggested that Tesla should include a backup option for those who prefer the familiarity of side mirrors.
Additionally, a few owners expressed their concern about the size of the Cybertruck. While they loved the spaciousness on the inside, they found it challenging to maneuver and park in tight spaces. This issue, however, seemed to be a matter of adjustment, as some owners mentioned that they quickly adapted to the size and became more comfortable with it over time.
Overall, the first Tesla Cybertruck owners had predominantly positive feedback about their new vehicles. They praised the design, performance, and spaciousness, making them confident in their decision to purchase this controversial vehicle. With the Cybertruck breaking new ground in terms of design and technology, it is likely that Tesla will continue to refine and improve upon this innovative creation based on the valuable feedback from its passionate owners.
