EXCLUSIVE: Rep. Ashley Hinson Introduces Bill to Cut Red Tape and Rein in Unelected Bureaucrats

Rep. Ashley Hinson (R-IA) has taken a stand against the “unconstitutional fourth branch” of unelected bureaucrats by introducing the Red Tape Reduction Act. This bill aims to codify five Trump-era executive orders on deregulation into law, ensuring that rules and regulations are subject to the approval of Congress.

Reining in Executive Overreach

In an interview with the Washington Examiner, Hinson highlighted President Biden’s cancellation of the Keystone pipeline as an example of executive overreach. By bypassing Congress, Biden singlehandedly eliminated 60,000 jobs. Hinson argues that this action is part of Biden’s “war on American energy,” which ultimately drives up costs for consumers.

Hinson also points to other unpopular actions, such as the requirement for vehicles to be electric by 2030 and the transfer of student loan debt to taxpayers. She believes that these measures, which couldn’t pass through Congress, are being pushed through by unelected bureaucrats who are subverting the will of the people.

Restoring Trump’s Deregulation Orders

Hinson’s bill seeks to put five of former President Donald Trump’s executive orders into law. These orders focused on deregulation and shrinking the federal bureaucracy. Trump’s orders required departments and agencies to eliminate two regulations for each new one and established Regulatory Reform Officers to enforce these reforms. He also prohibited regulators from treating guidance documents as binding rules.

Additionally, Trump aimed to increase transparency and budget neutrality within federal agencies. Hinson believes that reinstating these actions is crucial to ensure that Congress has a say in the decision-making process and that unelected bureaucrats don’t have excessive power over the lives of Americans.

Fighting for Iowans and Americans

Hinson emphasizes that the Biden administration’s current regulations are hurting Americans, particularly Iowans. She points to the increased cost of doing business in manufacturing and agriculture as evidence of this. Hinson also highlights the recent Supreme Court ruling on the Waters of the United States rule, which limited the EPA and Army Corps of Engineers’ authority to regulate waterways.

While praising the Supreme Court’s decision, Hinson criticizes Biden’s intent to regulate 97% of Iowa as federal land. She believes that decisions regarding regulations should be made by the people and their elected representatives, not unelected bureaucrats.
