Customs and Border Protection Makes BLM Flyer to Celebrate Black History Month

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection flyer (CBP), was created by the Privacy and Diversity Office (PDO). This has caused some controversy within the country’s largest law enforcement agency. Sources say that the flyer is not only well-intentioned but also divisive.

This flyer was sent to the agency along with Troy Miller, CBP Acting Commissioner for Black History Month. The flyer features images of figures like Martin Luther King Jr. and former President Barack Obama. Jesse Jackson and Colin Kaepernick.

A word cloud is located in the middle of the flyer. It contains words such as:

  • Black
  • Activist
  • Gospel
  • Justice
  • Hip Hop
  • #BlackPower
  • #BlackLivesMatter
  • #Blackgirlsrock
  • George Floyd
  • Colin Kaepernick
  • Michael Brown

Obtained from Townhall

Townhall reviewed an email sent by the agency encouraging employees to take action. “participate in local Diversity and Inclusion Program Committee activities at headquarters and various field offices in honor of National Black History Month.”

Sources from CBP in Baltimore Field Office claim that someone printed the flyer and put it up on a wall. This caused some drama as some of the names are strongly anti-police. Sources claim there is confusion “at the divisive nature and the tone of it” Because “BLM hates us, so does Maxine Waters. Kaepernick hates us. They’re anti-police advocates against the nation’s largest police agency.”

Black Lives Matter CBP “like other law enforcement agencies, are rooted in white supremacy and a history of slave-catching” In the wake of Border Patrol agents being falsely charged with whipping Haitians illegally crossing into Texas at Del Rio in 2021. In a press release, BLM repeated the false narrative:

“When we say #DefundThePolice, we mean all the police, including U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), who are demonstrating their slave-catching roots, riding horseback, and beating Haitian asylum-seekers with whips.”

Kaepernick wore socks that depicted police officers as pigs during protests before football games began. The case of Micheal Brown was well-known. “Hands Up, Don’t Shoot” Despite witness testimony that Brown raised his arms before Officer Darren Wilson, the sentiment was against police officers. However, the final investigation did not find any evidence supporting those claims.

“This is just another attempt by a federal agency to show how woke it is. The office that made this is also responsible for responding to FOIA requests, so I would rather they not spend time making flyers like this and instead work on not taking six months to respond to a FOIA request,” Townhall was informed by one agent from the Border Patrol.

CBP states that there are approximately 400,000 people in the United States. PDO “utilizes local Diversity and Inclusion Program Committees (DIPCs), comprised of U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s (CBP) employee volunteers, to build upon diversity awareness and inclusion within our workforce. PDO staff provides local CBP management and DIPCs with leadership, support, and direction in the execution of CBP’s Diversity and Inclusion Management Plan and affirmative employment obligations.”

“Each year the theme for National Black History Month is selected by the Association for the Study of African American Life and History, established on September 9, 1915, by Dr. Carter G. Woodson. This year’s theme is ‘Black Resistance in the Past, Present, and Future.’  The poster includes names and historical reference representative of Black Resistance. CBP distributed the poster along with information about the process for establishing the theme to advance the educational intent of Black History Month,” Townhall was told by a spokesperson from CBP.
