Crockett calls out MTG for not being able to ‘take the heat’ from Trump

Representative Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) criticized Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) for resigning from Congress shortly after clashing with former President Donald Trump. Greene announced she will resign on January 5,2026,ending her five-year tenure as a House lawmaker, following Trump’s withdrawal of support due to her public disagreements with him. Crockett expressed disbelief that Greene could not “take the heat” after only a week opposing Trump, contrasting Greene’s response to the intense criticism and threats Crockett herself endures as a legislator opposing the president. Crockett emphasized that her role is to serve her constituents, not to appease the president. Trump celebrated Greene’s resignation on social media, attributing it to her poor poll numbers and lack of willingness to compete in a primary. Other lawmakers, including Rep.Thomas Massie (R-KY), expressed sadness over Greene’s departure, noting her involvement in bipartisan efforts such as the push for transparency on Jeffrey Epstein-related files.

Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) said she couldn’t believe Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) said she was resigning after feuding with the president “for one week.”

Greene announced Friday that she will resign from Congress on Jan. 5, 2026, abruptly ending her five-year career as a House lawmaker. The congresswoman’s declared resignation comes a week after President Donald Trump pulled his support from her, which followed her criticism of the president’s stances on various policies.

Crockett said Sunday her reaction to Greene’s resignation was “you’ve got to be kidding me.”

“You‘re on the other side of the president for one week, and you can‘t take the heat. Imagine what it is to sit in my shoes, to not only be on the opposite side of him, but to have people like her who are constantly fanning the flames of hate. And imagine what those threats look like when you literally are someone like me,” Crockett said on CNN’s State of the Union.

“But at the end of the day, I know that I serve the people of Texas [District] 30 and so my job isn‘t to be there and necessarily do whatever is going to make the president not be on my back, but instead is to focus on making sure that I can push forward with policies that are positive for Texas 30,” Crockett said.

Crockett added that Trump is upset with Greene and other Republicans who signed the discharge petition for the Epstein Files Transparency Act, which Trump signed after it quickly passed in Congress on Nov. 19. Crockett also questioned why other lawmakers are able to weather criticism in the current political environment, but Greene “can’t.”

Trump took a victory lap over Greene’s resignation on Truth Social, saying the Congresswoman didn’t want to compete in a primary and also faced “PLUMMETING Poll Numbers.” He also claimed Greene “went BAD” due to how he never returned her “never ending barrage of phone calls.”

Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY), another critic of the president, said he is “very sad” over Greene’s resignation and will miss her “tremendously.” Greene was among the signers of Massie’s discharge for the full release of the Epstein files.
