Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR) has called for the⁢ deportation of foreign students holding visas participating in antisemitic protests, asserting they do not belong in the country. This statement follows Columbia University’s shift to ⁣a ‍hybrid class‌ model, prompted by ‌tense pro-Palestinian demonstrations on campus. Cotton also‍ suggested involving⁣ law enforcement to address harassment of Jewish students and advocated for visa revocation and deportation⁣ of the involved foreign students.

Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) has called for foreign students with visas partaking in antisemitic protests to be deported, arguing they have “no right to be here.”

Cotton’s demand comes after Columbia University announced that it would move to a hybrid class model through the end of the semester due to a myriad of tense pro-Palestinian protests on campus. The Arkansas senator suggested that Columbia and other school presidents dealing with these types of protests ought to contact New York police to arrest those harassing the Jewish students on campus.

“And by the way, any of these students who are foreigners here on visas should have their visas provoked by the Biden administration and promptly deported,” Cotton said on Fox News’s America Reports. “They have no right to be here, and they certainly have no right to be here spewing antisemitic and anti-Israel filth.”

Cotton was also asked about the idea of the National Guard coming to Columbia University, which has been suggested by some Jewish students. Cotton agreed, arguing that President Joe Biden has a duty to protect these students from antisemitism.

“These are scenes like you see out of the 1930s in Germany,” Cotton said. “They should never be witnessed or tolerated here in America in 2024.”

Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) has also supported the idea of the National Guard protecting Jewish students on campus.

Cotton has been no stranger to his criticism of antisemitic protesters disrupting the public, encouraging people on social media to “take matters into your own hands” to remove pro-Palestinian protesters blocking highway traffic. The Arkansas senator explained how these types of protests are harming people who are simply going about their day.

Biden has condemned the “vile comments” made by some protesters in a statement issued on Passover on Monday. However, he has not provided any specifics on how he would combat protesters engaging in these protests.
