Cornel West Launches 2024 Presidential Campaign with People’s Party
Philosopher and scholar Cornel West announced on Monday that he was launching a 2024 presidential campaign with the People’s Party, a progressive third-party group. He will join an increasing number of long-shot candidates seeking the White House, including Democrats Marianne Williamson and Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
West, a former Harvard University and Princeton University professor, is a socialist who has long been outspoken in his political views. He once criticized then-presidential candidate Joe Biden in 2019 for defending the 1994 crime law he authored and which he said would cost Biden black voters.
“I am running for truth and justice as a presidential candidate for the People’s Party to reintroduce America to the best of itself — fighting to end poverty, mass incarceration, ending wars and ecological collapse, guaranteeing housing, health care, education and living wages for all!” West tweeted in a video post. “Join the movement at CornelWest24.com!!”
West faces an overwhelming, hard, and uphill climb to the White House, given his third-party campaign bid. However, he remains determined to fight for a host of issues, including a living wage, “decent housing,” women’s bodily autonomy, “healthcare for all,” and climate change.

“I entered the quest for truth. I entered the quest for justice. And the presidency is just one vehicle to pursue that truth and justice, what I’ve been trying to do all of my life,” West said in his video announcement.
“I come from a tradition where I care about you. I care about the quality of your life,” he said. “I’m not hating anybody. We’re talking about loving. We’re talking about affirming. We’re talking about empowering those who have been pushed to the margins because neither political party wants to tell the truth about Wall Street, about Ukraine, about the Pentagon, about Big Tech, neo-fascists like brother Trump, or milquetoast neoliberals like brother Biden.”
