Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont announced his bid for a third term in office,aiming to continue his work on making life more affordable for families by addressing healthcare,electricity,housing,and childcare costs. Lamont emphasized progress made in the state but acknowledged ongoing challenges, stating his commitment to fighting for a more affordable future. If reelected, he would be the frist Democrat since 1934 to win three gubernatorial terms in Connecticut. Lamont faces a Democratic primary challenge from state Rep. Josh Elliott and Republican contenders Ryan Fazio and Erin Stewart in the general election. The Democratic Governors Association chairwoman praised Lamont’s leadership and record, highlighting his budget management, tax cuts, investments in education and infrastructure, and efforts to protect freedoms.

Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont (D-CT) announced Friday he would run for reelection to a third term. Lamont’s state is one of just over a dozen without term limits.
“It’s official: I’m running for re-election. CT is moving forward, but too many families are impacted by rising costs. I’m running to keep fighting for a more affordable future. We’ve come a long way, and there’s more work to do,” he wrote on X alongside his announcement video.
The video largely focused on affordability as Lamont aims to lower healthcare, electricity, housing, and childcare costs while standing up to President Donald Trump.

If elected to a third term, Lamont would be the first incumbent Democrat since 1934 to successfully run for a third time. Republican former Gov. John G. Rowland won three terms, but resigned halfway through his third term as governor in 2004.
He told CT Insider that he wants a third term in office to keep building in the state.
“[W]e’ve built the foundation for a really good state and now we’re in a better position to make some big initiatives and really make a difference,” he said.
He’ll have the inside track to the Democratic nomination, though he faces a primary challenge from state Rep. Josh Elliott. Republican state Sen. Ryan Fazio and former New Britain Mayor Erin Stewart will run for the Republican nomination.
The chairwoman of the Democratic Governors Association, Gov. Laura Kelly (D-KS), quickly backed Lamont’s second reelection bid.

“Governor Ned Lamont is a results-oriented leader with a popular record of expanding opportunity and fighting to make life more affordable for Connecticut families — and we are thrilled he is running for reelection,” she said in a statement shared with the Washington Examiner.
“Governor Lamont has balanced the budget for six consecutive years, cut taxes for the middle class, invested in public schools and infrastructure, and brought major business investments to the state, all while protecting fundamental freedoms under attack from Washington,” she added, concluding that Lamont is in a “commanding position” in the campaign.
