UC Berkeley faces an intensified congressional investigation into claims of anti-Semitic⁣ acts and negligence in protecting its Jewish community.

The House Committee on Education and the Workforce is pressing for details from Berkeley regarding past anti-Semitic incidents, signaling deep concern over the university’s handling of such matters. This follows a letter spotlighted by the Washington Free Beacon, calling out the university’s inadequate response to incidences of anti-Semitism on campus.

Hot on the heels of⁤ a violent disruption at an event featuring Israeli lawyer Ran Bar-Yoshafat, which escalated to physical assaults against⁤ Jewish students, the House committee, ‌chaired by Rep. ‌Virginia Foxx, is taking decisive action with its investigation.

Further incidents, including the recent blockade of the iconic Sather Gate by anti-Israel protesters and subsequent harassment of Jewish students, have put the campus on the legislative radar as part of a broader scrutiny involving prestigious institutions like Harvard and MIT.

“UC Berkeley’s failure to address this activity breaches a specific and longstanding university commitment…and constitutes‍ a selective dereliction of‌ duty‍ to enforce university⁤ rules against harassment,” ‌the committee emphatically stated in its missive to the institution.

A spike in anti-Semitic and anti-Israel ‍sentiment is taking root nationwide, mirrored by the uptick at Berkeley following the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas attack⁢ on Israel.

An explosive anti-semitism/” target=”_blank” rel=”noopener”>lawsuit has thrown a spotlight on the university, alleging it allowed unchecked anti-Semitism. Documented incidents,⁢ like the assault on ⁣a Jewish student sporting an Israeli ‍flag, paint a troubling picture of campus dynamics.

In response‍ to these allegations, the House Committee is⁤ demanding a comprehensive turnover of documents concerning anti-Semitic activities ‍and the university’s approach to managing this hate-filled climate.
