Comer asks five more ex-White House aides to testify about Biden’s health and autopen use
House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) is asking five former Joe Biden aides to sit for transcribed interviews in front of his committee in an expansion of his investigation into the former president’s health and the use of the autopen.
Comer sent letters on Wednesday to five former Biden administration aides: former senior adviser to the president Michael Donilon, former senior adviser to the president for communications Anita Dunn, former chief of staff Ronald Klain, former deputy chief of staff for policy Bruce Reed, and former counselor to the president Steve Ricchetti.
“These five former senior advisors were eyewitnesses to President Biden’s condition and operations within the Biden White House,” Comer said in a press release. “They must appear before the House Oversight Committee and provide truthful answers about President Biden’s cognitive state and who was calling the shots.”
The interview requests come after the committee renewed requests from last Congress to Biden’s physician and four former aides, and it plans to release the dates later this week. The committee will subpoena witnesses if they ignore the request.
Following the release of CNN anchor Jake Tapper’s book, Original Sin: President Biden’s Decline, Its Cover-Up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again, Republicans have dived into their investigation into the Biden administration.
Comer has leaned into the former president’s use of an autopen for pardons and executive orders, along with an investigation into the “cover-up” of his “mental decline.” The chairman called it a “historic scandal.”

“The Committee is interested in obtaining your account of former President Biden’s decline, as you were reportedly one of the five White House staffers who were ‘effectively family’ to the former President,” Comer wrote in the letter to Reed.
“You were described as ‘nearly always by Biden’s side on the road’ and one of the key staffers in the inner circle,” the letter continues. “The scope of your responsibilities—both official and otherwise—and personal interactions within the Oval Office cannot go without investigation.”
