Colorado School District Shells Out $37K For Anti-Racism Training Via Zoom

Racism Inc. is a booming business.

In April of this year, Colorado’s Douglas County School District contracted with The Gemini Group to provide a package of “Equity” trainings to the district administration, staff, parents, and community. The total price of the contract was $36,900 and included the following:

  • 2 equity consultants, billed for 23 hours of “coaching and prep” work
  • Four 3.5 hour workshops spanning 2 days
  • One 1 hour keynote presentation
  • One 2.25 hour community workshop

According to the contract (viewable below), all services would be rendered via zoom, and would transpire across 3 calendar days.

The first stunning detail is that the billed rate for the “Equity Consultants” was listed at $550 per hour, which did not apply toward the cost of the Zoom sessions themselves. The sessions would cost an additional $2-5k each. For comparison, the median hourly wage for a neurosurgeon in the US is $299.

The second alarming detail, buried on the “about” page for The Gemini Group, reveals that the consulting company appears to consist of only two persons, consultants (and wildly impressive swindlers), Christina and Dante. Aside from the effort entailed in preparing a Powerpoint and dialing in for the Zoom chats, it is unclear what overhead costs are accounted for to explain this exorbitant price tag. How the administrators of Douglas County School District will justify this price tag, which must ultimately be paid by the community, remains undetermined.

Fortunately, parents and stakeholders can see clips of the training here to determine for themselves whether the pearls of wisdom The Gemini Group offers are worth the hefty price tag.

A brief review of The Gemini Group website also gives a taste of what this highly specialized training may include. Emblazoned on the splash page is the first of many nonsensical platitudes, including: “Equity is the umbrella under which diversity and inclusion reside.”

The description for the “Implicit Bias Training” offered confirms what many parents may already suspect, that The Gemini Group is firmly based in Critical Race Theory. On their site they state that “every day, we see and feel the impacts of implicit bias, both individually and institutionally.” “Since everyone has it,” they assert, “and most institutions were built on it” (again, an assertion directly out of Critical Race Theory), the specialized training “provides participants with the understanding of where it comes from, how it can be recognized, and how detrimental impacts can be minimized.”

The “Equity Training” description also includes telltale signs of critical theory influence, promising to help emplyees “understand..systemic racism and the history of racial inequity, [and] learn how to utilize an equity lens to recognize and mitigate racism and any other forms of discrimination and oppression in the workforce.” With this approach, they promise, “participants will also understand intersectionality.”

The Gemini Group is one of many organizations that have sprung up in the past decade advertising pricey cures for racism and “inequity,” despite scant evidence supporting the efficacy of such teachings, and growing evidence that “diversity” training may exacerbate racial and gender divisions in workplaces. Amazingly, compared to other firms, Gemini’s prices are actually a bargain.
