Covington, who defeated Masvidal at UFC 272, has had several confrontations with his fellow fighter, both inside and outside The Octagon.

Currently, there is an ongoing aggravated battery case in Florida, in which Masvidal is accused of attacking Covington outside a Miami Beach restaurant in March 2022.

Colby Covington has established himself as the ‘super villain’ of UFC, and he did not hold back when discussing Masvidal. He didn’t have a positive send-off for the fighter, claiming that his one-sided win over Gamebred is what truly caused his retirement. Masvidal did not know it at the time.

“If I’m honest, he was retired after I beat him,” Covington told Submission Radio. “He’s a broken man. There’s a reason he came out and did what he did to me in the streets like a little clown. There’s no pride in that guy.”

“He just didn’t want to live knowing that he retired because I beat him,” Covington declared.

“So, of course, he’s going to lose to someone else in the division because he didn’t want that hanging over his head that I retired him,” Covington stated.

He then went on to say, “But guys… I’ll be honest, I retired Jorge ‘Street Judas’ last year in 2022 in T-Mobile Arena.”

Colby Covington also addressed the alleged attack that took place outside Papi’s Steakhouse in Miami, where he claims Masvidal attacked him. The result was several minor injuries, including a wrist abrasion and a broken tooth for Colby.

“I don’t care about the journeyman ‘Street Judas’ Masvidal. The guy’s a felon. He’s a criminal, and he’s a coward. He’s not a real man. If he was a real man? He wouldn’t have done what he did to me, so I’ve got nothing else to say on him.”

Covington is currently ranked number two in the UFC Welterweight division, despite being inactive since March 2022. He has won two out of his last four fights, with both losses occurring in title bouts against former champion Kamaru Usman.

The possibility of a major matchup between champion Leon Edwards and Covington was rumored to be in the works. However, Edwards does not believe Covington deserves the opportunity. The current titleholder stated publicly that he feels Covington should have to earn a title shot in the same manner that he did, by fighting for it.
