Coincidence? GOP lawmakers targeted with biological threat after opposing LGBT agenda.
Letters Containing White Powder Sent to Republican Legislators
Recent incidents involving threatening letters containing white powder have targeted Republican legislators across multiple states, including Montana, Kansas, and Tennessee.
According to ABC, similar letters were also sent to former President Donald Trump, Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, and other individuals, but were intercepted before reaching their intended recipients.
The FBI is currently investigating this multi-state incident.
According to the Associated Press, Tennessee House Republican Caucus spokesperson Jennifer Easton stated that the letters “contained obvious threats made by a liberal activist specifically targeting Republicans.”
One of the letters prompted a temporary lockdown of a Tennessee legislative office building. Earlier this year, Tennessee lawmakers passed a bill that defines gender based on biology rather than preference.
So far, the powder tested in all states has not been found to be hazardous.
In Montana, where a high-profile incident involving a transgender lawmaker gained national attention, Republican state Rep. Neil Duram and other Montana Republicans received similar letters. The most recent target was Montana House Speaker Matt Regier.
According to KECI-TV, the letter to Speaker Regier stated, “It is important not to choke on your ambition,” and was signed “your secret despirer.”

The letters had local return addresses but were postmarked in Kansas City, as reported by KECI-TV.
The wave of letters originated in Kansas, where over 100 letters containing powder were received, all addressed to Republicans, according to the Wichita Eagle.
Although the motive behind these incidents remains unclear, the Eagle noted that Kansas recently passed a ban on transgender athletes competing in female sports.
Republican state Sen. Molly Baumgardner expressed concern, stating, “Time and effort was put into this. I think it does give individuals pause simply because whatever individual or group decided to pursue this, the intention was to be threatening. The intention was to create a threat.”
Republican state Rep. Stephen Owens of Kansas received a letter with the same content as the one received by Montana legislator Neil Duram. The letter warned, “It is important not to choke on your ambition,” and was signed “your secret despirer,” according to CNN.
Owens speculated that the letters may be related to recent vetoes overridden by the legislature, particularly concerning LGBT and abortion issues. He expressed his concern, saying, “It’s really terrifying to think that because of someone’s political beliefs, they can be a target.”
Another Kansas Republican state Rep., Tory Marie Blew, received an envelope with the name of a deceased transgender woman as the return address.
Despite the intimidation, Owens stated that the letter will not change his votes, emphasizing that violence and threats do not alter one’s perspective. He added, “As a matter of fact, that strengthens the resolve of myself and my colleagues and of our party to continue the work that we’re doing.”
