CNN revamps programming, introduces two new prime-time hosts.
CNN Shakes Up Programming Slate, Adds Two New Prime-Time Hosts to Lineup
CNN is making some exciting changes to its lineup of hosts, bringing in fresh faces to engage viewers.
Abby Phillip will take the helm of “CNN NewsNight” at 10 p.m., while Laura Coates will host “Laura Coates Live” at 11 p.m., according to a release from the network.
Phil Mattingly will join forces with Poppy Harlow on “CNN This Morning,” and Kasie Hunt will anchor “Early Start.”
The two most boring women in tv journalism are Kaitlan Collins and Abby Phillip. I won’t be watching evenings on CNN. Bring back Alisyn.

Chris Wallace will anchor a weekend program described as a “fast-paced, provocative panel of some of the country’s best reporters and influential commentators to make sense of breaking news, the latest developments in the 2024 presidential race, and set the agenda for what’s next.”
The release also mentioned that Manu Raju will anchor the Sunday edition of “Inside Politics,” and Christiane Amanpour will have a new weekend show, although it was not named.
A limited series called “King Charles,” featuring Gayle King and Charles Barkley, will make its debut during the fall. These changes come after the departure of former CEO Chris Licht.
The New York Post reported on the changes, quoting a media veteran’s caustic reaction to the new lineup.

According to sources, the reaction to the changes has been mixed. One source described it as a game of musical chairs, while another source expressed disappointment, saying that no one at the network is truly captivating. A third source dismissed the new lineup as dull and predicted it would have no impact.
However, Axios pointed out that the new lineup brings more visibility to diverse talent. Two of the evening anchors are women of color, and women will anchor all news between 7 p.m. ET and midnight, with the exception of Anderson Cooper at 8 p.m., as Axios highlighted.
Not at all impressed with CNN’s new lineup of hosts…with the exception of Anderson. Definitely will not be watching.

As reported by The New York Times, these changes come as CNN’s ratings have taken a hit. In July, CNN averaged 534,000 total primetime viewers, ranking 12th in basic cable, according to Adweek. In comparison, Fox News averaged 1,571,000 viewers, while MSNBC averaged 1,124,000 viewers.
