CNN Senior Political Analyst Shocked And Appalled Federalism Still Works

On Wednesday, Ronald Brownstein, a senior political analyst at CNN expressed his amazement at the differences between policies implemented in Republican-led states versus Democrat-led states. Brownstein said, “On so many fronts, the states w/unified Republican control of government (or veto proof legislative majorities as here) are building a nation w/in a nation. The breadth, degree, and pace, of separation by the red states is breathtaking.”

However, it should be noted that this system of government underpins America and allows each state to implement laws that cater to its specific needs. For example, California has legalized abortion throughout all nine months of pregnancy and is considering a bill that could cost $800 billion. Meanwhile, Texas banned abortion once a heartbeat is present and is scrapping diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.

Brownstein’s reaction to Republican states’ laws reveals that the Left believes laws should be decided from the top down, and states should have little to no decision-making power regarding what happens within their borders.

The “nation within a nation” line that Brownstein used may be adapted from W.E.B. Dubois, who suggested that Black Americans should prioritize self-sufficiency, focusing on internal affairs, establishing independent trade groups, churches, schools, and businesses to achieve it.

Brownstein’s reaction suggests that he is displeased with the newly implemented conservative policies, as it seems like conservatives are discovering how they can use the government’s authority to create a society that aligns with their beliefs, including allowing people to carry pistols without permits.
