Rating Plummets as the News Outlet Faces On-Air Drama

CNN’s viewership among the coveted 25 to 54 age demographic plunged to a three-decade low, which underscores the ongoing struggle of the left-leaning news outlet.

Last week, CNN managed to attract just 84,000 average viewers during prime time, which is the lowest rating the network has seen in more than three decades, compared to Fox News and MSNBC, which racked up 219,000 and 100,000 viewers, respectively.

When viewership is measured across all age demographics, Fox news trounces CNN by more than 1.6 million prime-time viewers.

CNN’s CEO Chris Licht had been struggling to revamp the channel’s prime-time line-up. The network’s new strategy includes prioritizing exclusive interviews and airing special content such as documentaries on the fentanyl crisis, with the aim of boosting viewer numbers, according to sources. This marks a significant departure from the network’s previous lineup, which included liberal commentary shows.

Moreover, last month, a daytime airing of “Ancient Aliens” on the History Channel attracted more viewers than an interview with First Lady Jill Biden during prime time.

CNN continues to experience poor ratings during its daytime programming, with Fox News attracting 150,000 key demographic viewers compared to just 80,000 for CNN. The news channel has been embroiled in controversy recently, with morning show hosts leaving due to drama. For example, Don Lemon of “CNN This Morning” was pulled off the air for a month of training after he made sexist comments about Presidential candidate Nikki Haley, a remark that upset his co-hosts Poppy Harlow and Kaitlin Collins, who he had a screaming altercation with in December.
