CNN Contributor Claims Fani Willis Investigation Stalling: Predicts Trial During Malia Obama’s Presidency
The Snail’s Pace of Justice: Toobin Pokes at the Trump-Willis Case
In a tongue-in-cheek commentary, Jeffrey Toobin, former federal prosecutor, elicited a few chuckles on Friday with his take on the legal actions pursued by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis against ex-President Donald Trump. His prophetic humor? The trial could span into the era of potential President Malia Obama.
Toobin, who had his share of controversial timeouts, suggested that the case is verging on a legal quagmire. He pinpointed a judge’s recent decision, requiring Willis’ selected special prosecutor—and former beau—Nathan Wade, to step down, as the clog in the wheels of justice.
“Today was a very good day for Donald Trump. This case is going nowhere,” Toobin asserted, highlighting the slow pace of another RICO case in Georgia. “This case is never going to trial before the election. It’s an embarrassment. All of this. Fani Willis has hung on, but this case is stagnating.”
Others Share Toobin’s Skepticism
Toobin isn’t the lone doubter in the CNN family. Elie Honig, the network’s senior legal analyst, earlier aired his own grievances. He pointed out the dismissal of a slew of Willis’ charges against Trump and his team as a telltale sign of dysfunction.

A Contrary Perspective
Yet, not everyone is on the same page. Former DeKalb County District Attorney Gwen Keyes Fleming offered a more optimistic view, countering Toobin’s pronouncement:
“I do see enough evidence to proceed. The timing in this case—though one RICO case dragged—the norm is quicker jury selection. In D.A. Willis’ last trial with a dozen defendants, a jury was found in roughly four weeks. That should be the actual benchmark.”
Toobin held firm to his outlook:
“And as far as I can tell, the trial might align with Malia Obama’s presidency. It’s lagging tremendously. Jury selection could span from a month to a year. Plus there are numerous legal motions pending, as Trump faces other legal battles.”
True to form, Jeffrey Toobin has combined his legal insight with a bit of wry humor to critique the molasses-like progress of a high-profile case. While legal analysts may debate the case’s trajectory, Toobin’s hyperbole paints a vivid picture of the tangled and often glacial pace of legal proceedings. Whether Willis’s case against Trump is a swift strike for justice or a drawn-out duel that could potentially last until a new generation takes the Oval Office, will ultimately be written by time.
