Gay has been accused of plagiarism in nearly 50 instances, affecting eight of her published works.
In December, Gay, along with the presidents of MIT and the University of Pennsylvania, testified before Congress but evaded answering questions about whether advocating for the genocide of Jews violated their universities’ codes of conduct.
“It can be, depending on the context,” Gay told lawmakers. She acknowledged that hate speech is inconsistent with Harvard’s values and that when it crosses into conduct, it violates their policies.
As a result of these controversies, several prominent donors have paused their donations to Harvard, and early applications to the university have decreased by approximately 17%.
