Chuck Todd is leaving NBC’s top show and has announced that this summer will be his last.

Chuck Todd Announces Departure from “Meet the Press”

After nearly a decade of moderating the NBC political panel show, Chuck Todd has announced that he will be leaving “Meet the Press.” In his place, Kristen Welker will take over in the coming months.

“I’ve watched too many friends and family let work consume them before it was too late,” Todd said. “I promised my family I wouldn’t do that.”

Despite criticism from former President Donald Trump and rumors of his departure, NBC gave no indication that Todd’s decision was anything other than his own. Todd’s final show date is unclear, but he has stated that this will be his final summer.

“We didn’t tolerate propagandists, and this network and program never will,” Todd said.

Kristen Welker, a former chief White House correspondent, has been Todd’s chief fill-in for the past three years and moderated the final presidential debate between Trump and Joe Biden in 2020. Now, Welker will be taking on the role of moderator for what promises to be another contentious presidential election cycle.

Expanding the “Meet the Press” Brand

Todd expressed pride in expanding the “Meet the Press” brand to a daily show, podcasts, newsletters, and even a film festival. Despite criticism from partisans, Todd believes that the goal of each show is to “make you mad, make you think, shake your head in disapproval at some point and nod your head in approval at others.”
