Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie on Trump’s Potential Attendance at GOP Primary Debates

“I think that he’ll show up at the debates because his ego won’t permit him not to,”

Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) expressed his thoughts on whether former President Donald Trump would attend the GOP primary debates. In an interview with the New York Times’s Maureen Dowd, Christie confidently stated that Trump’s ego would not allow him to miss out on the debates. According to Christie, Trump’s desire to be in the spotlight and his inability to tolerate being left out of a big TV show would drive him to participate.

Christie’s Confidence in Beating Trump

Christie went on to assert that he is capable of defeating Trump in a debate. He cited his past experience in helping Trump prepare for debates in both 2016 and 2020. The former governor even called on Trump to commit to attending the GOP primary debate, going as far as saying he would “shame” Trump into showing up alongside his Republican competitors.

Furthermore, Christie emphasized his New Jersey roots as an advantage in campaigning against Trump. He believes that his understanding of the “New York thing” gives him an edge over the former president. According to Christie, Trump has never faced someone who truly comprehends his tactics and personality. Growing up and living in the same atmosphere, Christie claims to know exactly what Trump’s game is.

As of now, Trump has not confirmed his intent to attend the debates. He has maintained his stance that he should not have to debate his opponents as long as he remains ahead in recent polls.
