Chrissy Teigen Quits Twitter: ‘Never Forget That Your Words Matter’

Chrissy Teigen, model, and cookbook author, said “goodbye” to her Twitter followers on Wednesday and has deleted her account after discussing the negativity that she experienced on the social media platform.

“Hey. For over 10 years, you guys have been my world. I honestly owe so much to this world we have created here. I truly consider so many of you my actual friends,” according to reports by People.

“But it’s time for me to say goodbye. This no longer serves me as positively as it serves me negatively, and I think that’s the right time to call something,” she wrote.

“I encourage you to know and never forget that your words matter. No matter what you see, what that person portrays, or your intention. For years I have taken so many small, 2-follower count punches that at this point, I am honestly deeply bruised”

“I have made my mistakes, throughout years and in front of hundreds of thousands, and been held accountable for them. I’ve learned an incredible amount here,” Teigen said, noting that she has “said f— up s— and killed myself over it as much as you killed me.”

“But one thing I haven’t learned is how to block out the negativity,” she wrote. “I’m just a sensitive s—, okay!? I don’t wanna be this way! I just am! But I love you guys and I cherish our time together, I truly do. I also hate you.”

She added a “<3” before closing down her account.

Teigen suffered a miscarriage last year that she documented and shared on social media, telling the world that the child was named “Jack” before he was born and will forever be a member of their family.

After she announced she was leaving, Twitter users took to the social media site to defend Teigen against bullying that they claim she endured on the platform. Others celebrated her departure.

One user tweeted, “So Chrissy Teigen deleted her account. So basically a woman of color who is grieving the loss of a child and simply wanted to share funny thoughts and yummy recipes was bullied to such an extreme that she had to leave in order to protect her mental health. Good job sucky people.”

Kurt Wagner, a writer for Bloomberg said, “Chrissy Teigen quitting Twitter is a really, really bad reflection on the company’s ability to fight abuse. She wasn’t just some famous person. She was a power user, and a fan favorite internally (she spoke at Twitter’s company-wide retreat in early 2020). This one will sting.”

Teigen has garnered attention in the past over her confrontations with people on the site. CNN reports that the model “is known for her witty Twitter comebacks, and has had several colorful spats which have trended on the platform — including with former US President Donald Trump, who she called a ‘p**** a** b****’ after the president branded her as Legend’s ‘filthy mouthed wife’ following discussions about criminal justice reform.”

In her closing tweets, Teigen included, “My life goal is to make people happy. The pain I feel when I don’t is too much for me. I’ve always been portrayed as the strong clap back girl but I’m just not.”

“My desire to be liked and fear of pissing people off has made me somebody you didn’t sign up for, and a different human than I started out here as! Live well, tweeters,” she continued. “Please know all I ever cared about was you!!!”
