Chris Rock Responds To Rowdy Fan Yelling ‘F*** Will Smith’ At Comedy Show

As the fallout from #slapgate continues, everyone just wants to know what Chris Rock is thinking about that shocking moment at the 2022 Academy Awards. The comedian briefly addressed the incident during his first public appearance since the Oscars, but only to say that he wasn’t ready to talk about it yet. Then on Thursday night in Boston, Rock shut down a heckler who was disparaging Will Smith.

According to the New York Post, The Wilbur Theater comedy crowd had “a lot of extra energy” during the 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. shows. “Someone yelled out ‘f*** Will Smith’ and [Rock] went, ‘No, no, no,’” an anonymous audience member told the publication.

“[Rock] said it like five or six times as he walked across the stage,” she said.

This came after the comedian brought down the house with his Wednesday night show opening, also in Boston. The Daily Wire previously reported that Rock opened the show by asking, “How was your weekend?” to a chorus of raucous laughter and applause.

The 57-year-old comedian continued saying, “I don’t have a bunch of s*** about what happened, so if you came to hear that, I have a whole show I wrote before this weekend. I’m still kind of processing what happened. So, at some point I’ll talk about that s***. And it will be serious and funny.”

Someone in that crowd also attempted to get a “F*** Will Smith” chant going, but Rock ignored them until it stopped and said, “I’m going to tell some jokes. It’s nice to just be out.”

Ticket sales for the comedian’s current tour allegedly skyrocketed on resale sites following the now-infamous moment at the Oscars ceremony. Rock hasn’t addressed what happened, however, other than shutting down hecklers and promising to talk about it all later.

“People were egging him on but he wouldn’t bite. I bought a ticket on StubHub thinking he’d make a bit of it but he didn’t,” a fan told the Post.

In general, the crowd seemed a lot more riled up than normal, and rowdy patrons had to be removed from Rock’s shows both nights. One attendee recalled Rock mentioning the vibe.

“Some guy was heckling him and he said ‘is that the Oscars security?’” Christian Williams told the Post. “The guy was saying ‘f*** Will Smith.’ There were a lot of ‘f*** Will Smith’s.’”

The comedian will be in Boston on Friday night as well before heading to scheduled shows at The Borgata in Atlantic City. Apparently, tickets for those shows are listed on secondary resale sites for $1,000 or more despite the likelihood that Rock will not be discussing Will Smith and won’t let fans chant obscenities featuring his name either.
