Chris Christie Slams Plea Deal for Hunter Biden
Former New Jersey Governor and current Republican presidential candidate Chris Christie didn’t hold back in his criticism of U.S. Attorney David Weiss over the weekend. Christie expressed his outrage over the plea deal offered to President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter.
Hunter Biden, who has been under investigation for several years, recently reached an agreement with Weiss. The deal entails pleading guilty to misdemeanor tax charges for failing to pay approximately $100,000 in taxes for 2017 and 2018. Despite these charges, Hunter is not expected to serve any jail time but will instead be placed on two years of probation.
In addition to the tax charges, the 53-year-old will also participate in a diversion program for his illegal firearm purchase in 2018. If he successfully completes the program, the gun charge may be removed from his record, according to insider sources.
Christie’s Strong Response
During an interview on Fox News’ “Fox News Sunday” with host Shannon Bream, Christie didn’t hold back his criticism of the deal.
“U.S. Attorney [David] Weiss has to explain himself and he has to explain himself in public,” Christie asserted. “You know, the fact is that this investigation of Hunter Biden in Delaware is either a lie or it’s incompetent. There’s no way that it should take five years to get to a two-count misdemeanor tax plea and then to dismiss the gun charges.”
Christie also took the opportunity to criticize Democrats for their stance on gun control. He argued that while they advocate for stricter gun laws, they fail to enforce existing laws, which he believes Hunter Biden should have been charged under.
“So either David Weiss is incompetent in taking five years to do that, or he’s not telling the truth,” Christie added. “And [Attorney General] Merrick Garland is not telling the truth. Either way, there’s a lot more work to be done on this case.”
Clearly, Christie believes that the plea deal for Hunter Biden raises serious questions about the integrity and effectiveness of the investigation. He is calling for transparency and further action to be taken in this case.
