Chris Christie deems Hunter Biden inquiry ‘incompetent and inexplicable’.
Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie Demands Answers on Hunter Biden Investigation
Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, a 2024 GOP presidential candidate, is calling for United States Attorney David Weiss to provide an explanation for what he deems an “incompetent” investigation into Hunter Biden. Christie firmly believes that it is not the time to simply “move on” from the case, asserting that the conduct of the Justice Department and Weiss’s office cannot be justified.
“It doesn’t matter whether you’re appointed by a Republican or a Democrat. If your work appears to be incompetent and inexplicable, you need to explain it so we can have confidence in our justice system.”
Christie emphasizes that his concern is not about political affiliation, stating, “I don’t care whether Mr. Weiss is a Republican or a Democrat. He owes the American people an explanation.”
Hunter Biden’s Court Appearance and Congressional Criticism
Hunter Biden is scheduled to appear in court on July 26 in relation to his plea deal on two misdemeanor tax offenses and a felony firearm offense. He agreed to plead guilty to the tax offenses in order to avoid prosecution on the gun charge.
Congressional Republicans have criticized the plea deal, accusing the Justice Department of politicizing the case. They argue that there is a “two-tiered system of justice” targeting Hunter Biden while former President Donald Trump remains untouched.
“It does not take five years to investigate two misdemeanor tax counts and to dismiss a gun charge,” Christie asserts. “And we need to know what they were investigating and why these are the charges they concluded to.”
Christie highlights the significance of the case, stating, “This is not just any person — this is the son of the President of the United States. And while justice needs to be equal, it needs to be equal. And it doesn’t appear to me that this is the way to do it.”
