Chris Christie criticizes Trump’s view of indictment as an ‘honorable badge’.

Former New Jersey Gov. Chris ⁤Christie𝅺 Reacts ‌to Trump’s ⁤Indictment⁢ Claims

During an⁣ appearance on CNN’s State of the Union, 𝅺former𝅺 New Jersey Gov.‍ Chris Christie ‌responded⁣ to⁤ Donald Trump’s‌ recent ⁤characterization of his ⁤indictments⁢ as badges ⁣of‍ “honor‌ and ⁤courage.”

Christie was shown ⁢a clip of Trump speaking ‌at𝅺 the 𝅺Turning Point⁢ USA 𝅺conference, where 𝅺Trump claimed𝅺 that being𝅺 indicted by‌ the “radical Left Democrats, Marxists, communists, and⁢ fascists”⁢ was ‍a𝅺 great‌ honor and a courageous⁣ act. As a ⁤contender ‌for the‌ 2024 GOP presidential nomination, Christie dismissed ⁣Trump’s statement with⁣ a‌ scoff.

“He’s ‍a ⁢liar and‌ a coward. He’s ‍not‌ getting indicted for anyone‌ other than ⁤because of his ⁤own ⁢conduct,”𝅺 Christie said. “When he says he’s⁤ doing ‍it for 𝅺us, that’s a lie. And when ‌he was𝅺 doing all the‍ things that he was doing‌ with ⁢those documents, it‌ shows⁤ exactly what a coward he is.”

A super PAC supporting ‌Christie ⁤released a⁣ political ad criticizing Trump for⁢ not participating in a Republican primary debate. The ad ‌suggested 𝅺that ‍if⁣ Trump were ‌to ⁤attend a debate,⁢ he would ‍have to face questions ‍about⁣ his indictments,‍ his loss⁤ to President Joe Biden, and⁣ his impeachments. Christie urged Trump to appear at⁣ the ⁣debate 𝅺and “defend⁤ his record,” although he referred to that⁤ record⁣ as “not great” in ‌an ABC interview.

Anchor Jake‍ Tapper pointed ‌out𝅺 that‍ Christie believes 2024 opponent Will ‍Hurd will⁤ follow Trump’s precedent from 2016 by not ‍committing to support ⁢the GOP𝅺 nominee, regardless‍ of who‌ that person may be. ⁣Hurd’s decision𝅺 not to pledge his support‌ would ‍disqualify ⁣him from‍ participating ‌in the primary debate. In contrast, eight years ago, when there were ten candidates on the debate ⁤stage, all ⁢except Trump⁢ agreed to ⁢support the eventual nominee.

“I ‌will sign the debate⁣ pledge, and I will⁤ take it every bit as seriously as𝅺 [Trump]⁢ did in 2016,” ⁢Christie ‌affirmed.

Furthermore,𝅺 Christie has met the fundraising 𝅺threshold required to qualify for the primary debate.

Christie, Trump, and𝅺 Hurd are ⁢competing against several‌ other ⁢candidates, including former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, former Arkansas Gov.⁤ Asa Hutchinson, former Vice‍ President⁢ Mike ⁢Pence, Sen.‌ Tim Scott (R-SC),⁢ Gov. Doug Burgum ‌(R-ND), Gov. Ron DeSantis𝅺 (R-FL), Miami ⁢Mayor ‍Francis‍ Suarez, political⁢ commentator‍ Larry Elder,⁣ and businessmen‌ Vivek Ramaswamy‌ and Perry Johnson, in𝅺 the race for 𝅺the GOP presidential⁤ nomination.
