Chris Christie criticizes Trump over poor poll numbers.

Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie Takes Aim at Trump

Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, a contender for the 2024 presidential race, didn’t hold back when discussing a recent poll that showed a lack of support for his campaign. During an appearance on Fox News Sunday, Christie addressed the fact that 70% of Republicans stated they would not consider voting for him. However, he made it clear that he is not running as a spoiler for former President Donald Trump, but rather to win and provide the truth that people are craving.

“The people in the Republican Party, and quite broadly across America, are tired of having political candidates who are snake oil salesmen who just do not tell them the truth, who tell them whatever they think they want to hear at the moment and then do not fulfill any of those promises,” said Christie.

Christie went on to highlight specific broken promises made by Trump during his presidency, such as the failure to repeal and replace Obamacare and the lack of progress on building a border wall. He also criticized Trump’s approach to international relations, particularly his willingness to appease Vladimir Putin.

Despite the unfavorable polling, Christie expressed confidence that upcoming announcements would prove the data wrong and demonstrate a strong demand for his 2024 run. He reminded viewers that Trump himself had low polling numbers at this stage in the 2015 race, suggesting that it’s too early to draw conclusions.

It’s worth noting that Christie and Trump have had a contentious relationship since Trump left the White House, a stark contrast to their previous alliance. Christie has openly criticized Trump’s actions and even compared him to the infamous Harry Potter villain, Voldemort.

2024 Presidential Race Heats Up

Trump was the first Republican to announce his candidacy for the 2024 presidential race, but he faces competition from notable figures like Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, and Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC). Many consider DeSantis to be Trump’s biggest challenger.

If Trump secures the Republican nomination, it could set the stage for a rematch with President Joe Biden, who is running for reelection. When asked about the potential tone of his campaign, Biden responded, “It depends on who the nominee is.”
