HONG KONG (Reuters) – Alibaba Group Holdings and Huawei Technologies Co on Friday unveiled exciting new products, including an artificial intelligence (AI) image generator and an upgraded AI model. These Chinese companies are fiercely competing in the global AI race, and their latest offerings demonstrate their commitment to innovation.
At the World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai, Alibaba Cloud, a subsidiary of Alibaba, introduced an image generator called Tongyi Wanxiang. This cutting-edge technology will initially be available to enterprise customers in beta form, opening up a world of possibilities for businesses.
Meanwhile, Huawei showcased the third iteration of its Panggu AI model at its annual developer conference in Dongguan. This model represents Huawei’s unique approach to AI, focusing on industrial applications such as safety inspections for freight train carriages, AI assistance for local government services, and more accurate weather prediction.
The rise of generative AI, sparked by OpenAI’s ChatGPT chatbot, has prompted Chinese tech companies to accelerate their AI product development. McKinsey estimates that generative AI could contribute $7.3 trillion in value to the global economy annually. In this competitive landscape, Alibaba’s image generator will rival popular offerings like OpenAI’s DALL-E and Midjourney Inc’s Midjourney.
Alibaba Cloud has been making significant strides in the AI space. In addition to Tongyi Wanxiang, they have also launched ModelScopeGPT, an AI tool designed for developers. These advancements highlight Alibaba’s commitment to empowering businesses and developers with cutting-edge AI capabilities.
It’s an exciting time in the world of AI as Chinese companies like Alibaba and Huawei push the boundaries of innovation. As they continue to introduce groundbreaking products, the global AI race is sure to intensify.
