China funds US public schools with $17M in ‘global influence’ plan, GOP investigates.
China’s Infiltration of American Public Schools Sparks Concern
China’s influence in American public schools is a growing concern, according to parents and Republican members of Congress. A recent report from Parents Defending Education reveals that China has established ties with 143 school districts in 34 states and the District of Columbia through its Confucius Classrooms program, providing over $17 million in funding since 2009. The report also highlights the CCP’s connections to school districts near U.S. military bases.
The allure of Chinese language and culture programs has led American schools to forge ties with one of the United States’ biggest foreign adversaries, as stated in the report titled “Little Red Classrooms.” While it’s important to provide students access to these programs, it is crucial to prevent the Chinese Communist Party from having unfettered access to our students, the report emphasizes.

The Confucius Classrooms project is an offshoot of Confucius Institutes established at U.S. universities. Chinese state media has praised the work done by these institutes and classrooms to further the Chinese Communist Party’s global influence, according to the report from Parents Defending Education. However, many Confucius Institutes have faced pressure from various entities, leading to their closure.
Several Republicans in Congress, as reported by the U.K. Daily Mail, are calling for a thorough examination of existing partnerships or their termination. Republican Rep. Mike Waltz of Florida expresses alarm at the lack of understanding regarding Communist China’s meddling in the education system. He highlights that the CCP not only promotes propaganda through education programs but also uses Chinese shell companies to acquire American private schools.

Republican Sen. Roger Marshall of Kansas expresses concern about the apparent targeting of schools near military bases. He emphasizes the need for the administration to recognize the various threats posed by China, including their infiltration of K-12 schools. House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul, a Texas Republican, agrees that learning languages and cultures critical to national security is essential but should not come with Communist propaganda and influence.
Republican Rep. Jim Banks of Indiana calls on Education Secretary Miguel Cardona to address the issue urgently, stating that the CCP’s goal is to undermine U.S. strength and leadership. Banks emphasizes the need to strengthen defenses against this adversary, including blocking their ability to propagandize in America’s K-12 schools.
The infiltration of China’s influence in American public schools is a matter of national security and the well-being of our children. It is crucial to address this issue promptly and take necessary measures to protect our education system.
