Charges Dropped Against Cincinnati Bengals Running Back Joe Mixon as Prosecutors Say “We Need Additional Investigation”

Charges against Cincinnati Bengals running back Joe Mixon were dropped at the request of the city prosecutor’s office. However, that doesn’t mean the star is completely in the clear. You could refile charges later.

According to court documents filed Thursday at Hamilton County Municipal Court, Mixon originally faced a misdemeanor case of aggravated menace. These documents were obtained by The Associated Press. In court records, Mixon does not have an attorney.

Friday’s motion by the prosecutors resulted in a change of the case.

“We need additional investigation before we would move forward with this case,” the city prosecutor’s office said when asking the judge to dismiss the charges.

Mixon was a former Oklahoma Sooner and has been involved in off-the-field incidents. Mixon punched a female student from Oklahoma in the face in 2014. This attack was captured on surveillance video.

Mixon was removed from the football team for one year and entered an Alford plea. That means that Mixon did not admit guilt but acknowledges there’s evidence for a conviction. Mixon was sentenced to a deferred sentence and ordered to do community service. He also had to go through counseling. He was also made a second-rounder by the NFL Draft due to the incident. He was eventually taken by the Bengals at 48th overall.

This isn’t the kind of news that a team with a turbulent history is happy to hear. There have been many instances when players from the Bengals were involved in legal issues. They were also traditionally one of most hated franchises in sports. They averaged just 6.9 wins In the span 2000-2009, there were two division titles won.

The situation with the quarterback has greatly improved. Joe Burrow The team reached the Super Bowl last season thanks to his leadership. But they wouldn’t have made it there without their venerable running back.

Joe Mixon ran for 814 yard and seven touchdowns. He also added 60 receptions for 441 yard in 2022.
