GOP centrists back members voting for debt ceiling bill.

Exclusive: Governing Majority Education Fund Launches Campaign to Support Center-Right Republicans

The Governing Majority Education Fund, a group dedicated to supporting centrist Republicans and promoting center-right policy solutions, is launching a six-figure campaign highlighting the spending reductions in the debt ceiling bill and supporting the center-right members who vote for it.

As the most conservative members of the House Republican Conference rebel against and vow to try and kill the Fiscal Responsibility Act, the bill to raise the debt ceiling that Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) negotiated with President Joe Biden, the Governing Majority Education Fund will be launching a campaign to support the center-right Republican members who vote for the bill, according to a release obtained by the Washington Examiner.

Debt Limit Deal: Where It Stands and What Is Still to Come

The paid campaign will include mail and digital ads but may be extended to include other media, according to a source familiar with the campaign. “This debt limit deal, while not perfect, is the product of bipartisan negotiations, and it will ensure that our nation will not default on our obligations while also taking important steps to rein in reckless government spending,” Drew Kent, the group’s executive director, said in a statement.

“As a compromise plan, members who support this bill will undoubtedly be attacked by extremists and fringe groups from across the ideological spectrum.” Members of the House Freedom Caucus have already come out and attacked members who support the bill calling them Republicans in Name Only, or RINOs. They have also attacked McCarthy for negotiating this deal with Biden, calling it a win for Democrats and saying Republicans who support this bill are handing a blank check to Biden and the Democrats.

More than 20 Republicans have already come out and said they would not support the bill and want to see it fail and start over from scratch. They say they want to see more spending cuts, caps, and conservative priorities in the bill.

Former New York Republican Rep. John Faso, who serves as president of the Governing Majority Education Fund’s board of directors, pushed back on the rhetoric from members of the Freedom Caucus, saying in a statement that this bill “does not write a blank check to the White House” but actually does cut spending and starts the process of “putting our nation on a more sustainable path.”

Because of this, Faso says the group will “step up” and “ensure that this message reaches the American people” by supporting the members who align with their group’s vision and help get this bill across the finish line.

  • The bill is expected to come up for a vote on Wednesday night, less than a week before the country is set to default on its debt on June 5.
  • The Governing Majority Education Fund is a 501(c)(4) nonprofit organization that supports and backs center-right policies and elected leaders.

Join the Governing Majority Education Fund in supporting center-right Republicans who are committed to reducing reckless government spending and ensuring our nation’s financial stability.
