Carville says Ilhan Omar should leave the Democratic Party over comments on ‘white men’
Democratic strategist James Carville suggested that Representative Ilhan Omar should leave the Democratic party and start her own political party due to her controversial comments about white men. Although Omar has a strong electoral base, receiving about 75% of the vote in the 2022 general election, remarks she made about white men approximately eight years ago resurfaced and led to Carville’s criticism during a recent podcast. He argued that Omar’s statements are detrimental and called for her to form a separate movement rather than campaign against specific demographic groups. In response, Vice president JD Vance condemned Carville’s remarks as “sick” and “genocidal language.” Omar defended her past comments, clarifying thay were aimed at raising awareness about white nationalism and its link to violence, citing a report from the Anti-Defamation League. Additionally, she expressed her longstanding criticism of Israel’s actions, particularly in relation to the conflict wiht Hamas.
Carville says Ilhan Omar should leave the Democratic Party over comments on ‘white men’
Democratic strategist James Carville recommended that Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) start her own political party.
Omar won her district soundly in November with roughly 75% of the vote in the general election, and the Democratic vote in the primary that preceded it with 56%. However, comments she made roughly 8 years ago criticizing white men recently resurfaced online and prompted Carville’s condemnation during the “Outrage of the Week” segment of the Politics War Room podcast.
“I would say our country should be more fearful of white men in our country because they are actually causing most of the deaths within this country,” Omar said in a 2018 interview with Al Jazeera.
“Ilhan Omar, lady, why don’t you just get out of the Democratic Party. Honestly, start your own movement,” Carville said on the Thursday episode, mispronouncing Omar’s first name. “So now we’re going to have a campaign by the progressive left against white men who vote about a third of everybody that votes in the election? Why don’t you, lady, start your own party? And then when it’s over you, you want to caucus with the Democrats, fine. We agree with a lot of things that you do, but we don’t believe we ought to be running against white men.”
“In fact, we don’t think we ought to be running against any gender, any ethnic group, any race, any religion or anything else,” Carville continued. “Goddamn, these people are just helpless. They cannot be helped. There’s nothing you can do to help them — don’t want to be helped. And if they had any guts, start their own goddamn political party and get out of ours.”
The clip even drew the ire of Vice President JD Vance, who reshared the video on X.
“This isn’t just sick; it’s actually genocidal language,” Vance captioned the clip on Monday. “What a disgrace this person is.”
BILL BELICHICK SLAMS CBS NEWS FOR PUSHING ‘FALSE NARRATIVE’ IN INTERVIEW
“In this nearly 8yr old clip, I am referring to the rise of white nationalism in an annual report issued by the Anti-Defamation League that said white supremacists were responsible for 78 percent of ‘extremist-related murders,’” Omar wrote back. “PS you should look up what ‘genocidal’ actually means when you’re actively supporting a genocide taking place in Gaza.”
Omar was referring to Israel’s conflict with Hamas, which has largely taken place in Gaza. The Minnesota representative has long condemned Israel’s actions, demonstrating her disdain for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu by boycotting his speech to Congress last year. She has since been removed from the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
