Carlos Santana apologizes for making offensive comments about the transgender community.
Music Legend Carlos Santana Apologizes for Insensitive Comments
Music legend Carlos Santana recently issued an apology after making controversial remarks about gender identity. In a statement posted on social media, Santana expressed remorse for his insensitive comments and emphasized his desire to honor and respect all individuals’ ideals and beliefs.
“I am sorry for my insensitive comments,” Santana stated. “They don’t reflect that I want to honor and respect all person’s ideals and beliefs. I realize that what I said hurt people and that was not my intent. I sincerely apologize to the transgender community and everyone I offended.”
Controversial Comments Made at New Jersey Concert
The musician made these remarks during a July concert in New Jersey, which sparked criticism and backlash from the online community. Santana’s comments centered around the concept of gender identity and how he believes a person’s gender is determined.
“When God made you and me, before we came out of the womb, you know who you are and what you are. Later on, when you grow out of it, you see things, and you start believing that you could be something that sounds good, but you know it ain’t right,” Santana said.
“Because a woman is a woman and a man is a man — that’s it. Whatever you want to do in the closet, that’s your business. I’m OK with that.”
These remarks were met with strong criticism, particularly from liberals online, who labeled them as “transphobic.” Many expressed disappointment in Santana’s views and questioned his status as a legendary artist.
“Such a legendary artist having to spread this hate for what,” one person responded to footage of Santana’s remarks.
“He’s over … well he actually never started,” another user posted.
