OTTAWA( Reuters )- On Saturday, a union representing about 155, 000 striking French public workers urged Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to expedite talks over an agreement for higher pay and work-from-home guarantees.

Since Wednesday, when over 35 000 employees of the Public Service Alliance of Canada( PSAC ) union and about 120 000 Treasury Board employees went on strike, a wide range of public services, including tax returns and passport renewals, have been impacted.

According to PSAC President Chris Aylward, the fire will last until a” fair work” has been reached. He claimed that the union’s’s negotiations players were” given up” of waiting and that they had been waiting for the federal government to respond to their request made on Thursday.

Aylward stated,” I need to see the chief minister getting included in these conversations and helping and assisting to move them along.”

Soon after Aylward finished speaking, conversation resumed. Since the beginning of mediation, the Treasury Board of Canada has” been at the bargaining table every day ,” according to the organization that oversees federal administration and handles government negotiations.

According to a speech from Treasury Board President Mona Fortier,” there is no time, nor compassion for delaying and misinformation.” ” Deals have resumed now that the PSAC has returned to the table following their press meeting.”

The federal government previously stated that it would continue negotiations to quickly reach an agreement and offered a” fair, competitive offer” that would increase wages by 9 % over the course of three years.

Workers for tax agencies want a 22.5 % pay raise over the next three years, while those for the Treasury Board want one that will increase their pay by 13.5 %. Last year, inflation reached a peak of 8.1 %, but it has since dropped to only about half of that.

In addition to pay, PSAC wants the latest contract to acknowledge the right to work remotely.
