California School Board Upholds Policy of Keeping Secrets From Parents

On Wednesday night, Chico Unified School Board voted 3 to 2 in favor of allowing schools to have information from relatives. The committee decided to maintain their original policy, which forbids people from disclosing a child’s’s gender identity to families and therefore enables the child to choose when the school is permitted to inform parents of any changes in their gender identities.

The school board’s’s” parental privacy legislation ,” as reported by Fox News, was put to a ballot after the Center for American Liberty sued the school district. Aurora Regino, who told her story to the school board before the vote, was the plaintiff in the cause. According to the lawsuit, a neighborhood school guidance counselor assisted Region’s’s 11-year-old sister in transitioning without her knowledge or permission.

Regino claimed that the therapist instantaneously confirmed her daughter’s’s identity, and that even after she expressed her desire to inform her life of the change, she made no attempt to assist in that respect.

According to Fox News,” State law in California establishes protections for individuals based on a number of factors, including sex self.”

Kids are fighting for their right to know what is happening with their kids at school in a number of issues across the nation. The parents of a sixth-grader at Paterson Elementary School in Fleming Island, Florida, are suing their school district in Florida for withholding information about their child’s’s transition. In their case, the parents were not informed of their child’s’s new self until after the child attempted murder twice at school.

Sage’s Law in Virginia was in response to a young girl’s gender identity being kept a secret from parents. Sage ran away with a stranger she met online the day her mother found out about her new name and pronouns. Sage was later found in a closet, gang raped. Further the state withheld custody of the child and sent her to a boys home, after her parents accidentally misgendered her at a court hearing.

Recently, California has established itself as a” shelter say” for transgender youth. Gavin Newsom signed into law a bill in September that would permit minors from some states to undergo medical moves without their parents’ permission. Parents who do not” affirm” their child’s’s gender identity would be denied custody under the same bill.

The Chico California school district’s’s representative stated to Fox News that they” remain committed to adhering to all federal, state, and local legal necessities for school towns and encourage our nation to work with our elected State authorities to develop requirements with which there may be matter.”
