California Mom Confronts School District After Her 11-Year-Old Daughter Changed Genders Without Her Knowledge

A California mother is upset with her daughter’s school district for enforcing a “parental secrecy policy” that permits school officials to offer gender counseling without informing parents, according to Fox News.

Aurora Regino said her 11-year-old daughter’s elementary school in the Chico Unified School District assisted in her daughter’s transition from female to male during the last school year, but a guidance counselor did not inform her throughout the entire process.

Regino expressed her frustration with board members at a meeting last Wednesday, stating, “During one of the meetings, my daughter told the counselor she wanted to tell me about her new identity. They ignored her request and did nothing to support her in letting me know what was going on at school.”

The board deliberated over implementing “more parental inclusion,” but ultimately decided to maintain the current “parental secrecy policy” with a vote of 3-2.

Regino responded to the decision, saying, “It was a really sad decision that they made, but unfortunately I wasn’t extremely surprised. This policy that they have in place, to keep these situations a secret from the family, is incredibly damaging.”

Regino, who is suing the district for withholding information about her daughter’s transition, labeled the policy as “incredibly dangerous” and discussed the challenges she faced when fighting for parental rights in the area.

Regino reported that the policy extends to children as young as five years old in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade.

“It’s incredibly damaging that they’re upholding such a crazy policy for such young children,” she added, emphasizing that this is a critical period in children’s and adolescents’ lives when they require parental guidance the most.

Despite the struggle, Regino is determined to continue speaking out to raise awareness about these practices.
