California Officials Investigate Arrival of Immigrants in Sacramento

California Attorney General Rob Bonta and Governor Gavin Newsom are investigating the arrival of more than a dozen immigrants in Sacramento. The state officials allege that the immigrants were sent with no arrangements, and they are looking into potential criminal or civil action regarding their transportation.

Bonta met with the immigrants and stated that they were brought to Sacramento by private plane with no prior arrangement or care in place. He added that they are investigating the circumstances by which these individuals were brought to California and evaluating potential criminal or civil action against those who transported or arranged for their transport.

Bonta also alleged that the individuals had paperwork from the “government of the State of Florida” and denounced any transportation of immigrants by other states. Newsom stated that the immigrants had arrived in Texas before being transported to New Mexico and put on a private plane to the Golden State.

“My Administration is also working with the California Department of Justice to investigate the circumstances around who paid for the group’s travel and whether the individuals orchestrating this trip misled anyone with false promises or have violated any criminal laws, including kidnapping,” Newsom said.

States Transporting Immigrants

States, including Florida and Texas, have transported immigrants from towns near the southern border to Democratic-run jurisdictions over the past year, including New York City, Washington, D.C., Chicago, and Martha’s Vineyard.
