Caitlin Clark Has Career Game as Transgender Controversy Erupts On-Court

Caitlin Clark enjoyed a career-high night, sinking eight three-pointers to lead the Indiana Fever to a come-from-behind win over the Chicago Sky on Sunday night.

Meanwhile, controversy erupted courtside during the third quarter, as former NBA player Enes Kanter Freedom, while wearing a shirt that read, “WOMAN noun. adult human female,” was ejected from the game after Sky player Natasha Cloud walked toward him, yelling.

Kanter Freedom responded by standing, stretching his arms out, and taking a few steps toward the court before security intervened and removed him from Chicago’s Wintrust Arena.

In the game, Clark and the Fever were down by one point against the Sky — 51-50 — going into halftime, before she and her teammates poured it on during the second half, surging to a 113-90 victory.

Clark scored 37 points with 10 assists, and teammate Kelsey Mitchell added 30 points to extend her streak of games with 20 points or more to 23, USA Today reported.

“The one-two punch of Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell came alive in the third quarter,” the newspaper reported. In that quarter, Clark had 29 points, eight assists, and Mitchell nailed 21 points and four assists.

Clark told a reporter after the game that she had gotten a good night’s sleep and was feeling it going into the contest.

“Before the game started, you can ask Coach that. I said it was going to be one of those nights,” she said.

ESPN reported the Fever had lost their previous two games, but with Sunday’s victory, ended the road trip 3-2.

Meanwhile, Chicago came into Sunday on a three-game winning streak, but with the loss against the Fever, the Sky have been eliminated from the playoffs.

The Indianapolis Star reported that the Fever, 25 and 14 this season to date, clinched a playoff spot.

During Sunday night’s game, controversy erupted when the Sky’s Natasha Cloud called out Kanter Freedom after she scored in the third quarter.

From his perspective, Kanter Freedom told Outkick that, following the incident, he felt Cloud had yelled at him because he had, moments before, cheered for the Fever’s Sophie Cunningham after she landed a three-pointer.

“Literally, a couple of possessions later, Natasha came back and started screaming and yelling and said, ‘She’s not going to sleep with you,’” he recounted.

Kanter Freedom fired back, “I’m not trying to sleep with her. I’m just here to protect women and support her.”

Cloud then started yelling profanities at him, the former NBA star said, which he found surprising, given all the young people within earshot.

“That’s not the way a WNBA athlete should react,” he said.

Security then stepped in and directed him out of the arena.
