Burchett doing ‘great’ while recovering from horse kick to the rib

Representative Tim burchett (R-Tennessee) recently shared that he is recovering well after being kicked by a horse on July 27,an incident that resulted in a broken rib. Burchett considers himself fortunate that the injury was limited to just one rib and could have been much worse. He described the injury as “collateral damage” caused when the horse was trying to shake off a nearby fly. Thanks to prompt medical care, Burchett is doing great and has only missed a single event during his recovery-a child’s Eagle Scout ceremony, which he hopes to make up for with a pizza outing. Additionally, Burchett expressed support for former President Donald Trump’s decision to federalize the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, D.C., criticizing the city’s leadership for being out of touch on crime issues. Burchett has shown interest in running for U.S. Senate next year, as current Senator Marsha Blackburn plans to run for governor of Tennessee.

Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) said Tuesday he got “really lucky” that he only broke one rib from a horse kick last month, and the injury could have been much worse.

Burchett said on X that he was kicked by a horse on July 27, calling his rib “collateral damage” from the animal resisting a nearby fly. Since then, the lawmaker said he’s doing “great” in his recovery thanks to “quick care” from a medical center.

“And [if] it was an inch and a half higher, all y’all would be here in Knoxville at my funeral, all the people that hate me telling everybody what a great person I was,” Burchett said Tuesday on CNN.

“And then they’d name a bridge after me, and five years later, everybody would say, ‘Who’s that guy they named that bridge after?’ ‘Oh, that‘s that guy that got kicked by a horse.’ But no, I’m great,” he continued.

Burchett said he only missed one meeting during his recovery process: “a kid’s Eagle Scout ceremony.” He said he may have to take the child out for pizza to make up for it.

Burchett also commended President Donald Trump’s decision to federalize the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, D.C., saying he is “shocked” by the “filth” and “needles” throughout the city. He said D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser is “a nice lady,” but the city’s leadership is “out of touch” in addressing crime, which is “too dadgum dangerous.”

HOUSE GOP’S EXPANDING EPSTEIN INQUIRY COULD SET UP CLASH WITH TRUMP DOJ

Burchett expressed interest in running for Sen. Marsha Blackburn’s (R-TN) seat next year, when the sitting senator will run for governor of Tennessee.

Blackburn won reelection last year, leaving her seat vacant if she won her 2026 bid for the governor’s mansion.
