Bud Light cheaper than water after Dylan Mulvaney incident.

Bud Light Sales Plummet as Controversial Endorsement Deal Backfires

Bud Light, the popular beer brand, is facing a major crisis after a disastrous endorsement deal with Dylan Mulvaney, a flamboyant trans influencer. Mulvaney’s claim to be a woman sparked controversy and led to a significant decline in Bud Light sales.

In a video posted on Instagram, Mulvaney expressed excitement about receiving a personalized can of Bud Light with his face on it. However, this move backfired as consumers abandoned the brand in droves, causing sales to plummet.

Even with discounted prices, Bud Light is struggling to regain its former popularity. Andy Wagner, the manager of Glenn Miller’s Beer & Soda Warehouse in Pennsylvania, revealed that Bud Light is now cheaper than some cases of water they sell.

“It’s just not moving like it used to,” Wagner said. “They stopped buying Bud Light, but it’s not that they stopped drinking beer.”

According to Bump Williams, a consulting firm, Bud Light sales have dropped by an average of 29% compared to the same period last year. This decline has also affected Anheuser-Busch’s stock, which has plunged over 15% since April.

CEO Refuses to Acknowledge Mistake

Despite the backlash, Brendan Whitworth, the CEO of Bud Light’s parent company, has refused to admit that putting Mulvaney’s picture on a can of beer was a mistake. During an interview on CBS, Whitworth dismissed the criticism as “divisive” and emphasized that Bud Light should be about bringing people together.

When asked if he would repeat the same action, Whitworth evaded the question and focused on the broader social conversation surrounding big brands and their responsibility to understand and meet consumer expectations.

While Bud Light has a history of supporting LGBTQ communities, Whitworth’s refusal to acknowledge the controversy has further fueled the backlash.

As Bud Light struggles to recover from this public relations nightmare, the company aims to refocus on brewing great beer, listening to consumers, and making a positive impact in the communities they serve.
