Brooke Shields Opens Up About Sexual Assault, Blames Herself

Brooke Shields opened up about a sexual assault she said happened thirty years ago — allegedly committed by a powerful Hollywood executive — and said that she blames herself.

The Hulu documentary featuring the 57-year old actress will consist of two parts. “Brooke Shields: Pretty Baby” The “Blue Lagoon” Star said that she had never spoken to anyone about the assault, and then replied back. “people weren’t believing those stories,” People magazine reported.

“No one is going to believe me,” Shields said. “People weren’t believing those stories back then. I thought I would never work again.”

“Doing the documentary, you see it all together, and it’s a miracle that I survived,” She also spoke out about the attack in her 20s. “It’s taken me a long time to process it.”

“I’m more angry now than I was able to be then,” The actress continued. “If you’re afraid, you’re rightfully so. They are scary situations. They don’t have to be violent to be scary.”

The “Endless Love” The star was just graduating from college, and was trying to find work. The actress went to dinner with a Hollywood executive, believing that she would be offered a job and a part in a movie.

Shields stated that after dinner, the person suggested she call a taxi from her hotel room. She said that the assault took place.

“I didn’t fight,” In the documentary, the actress stated. “I just froze.”

Afterward, she blamed her self for saying, “Why did I go up with him? I shouldn’t have had that drink at dinner.'”

“It was really easy to disassociate because by then it was old hat,” Shields said. “And because it was a fight-or-flight type of choice. Fight was not an option, so you just leave your body. ‘You’re not there. It didn’t happen.'”

“I’d always had a sense of disassociation from my body. From my sexuality,” She continued. “I was mostly a cover girl … And it was just easier to shut myself off. I was good at it.”

Shields stated that she made the documentary because of her love for it. “with the hopes of helping people not feel alone. Everybody processes their own trauma on a different timeline. I want to be an advocate for women to be able to speak their truth.”

Chris Henchy, a comedy writer and director, is the actress’s husband. They have two daughters together.
