Broadway has lit up again after being closed for more than a year.
Actor Nathan Lane and world-renowned tap dancer Savion Glover performed pieces to a masked, socially distanced crowd at the St. James Theatre on Saturday.
Lane performed a piece called “Playbills,” that told the story of a Broadway super-fan living through the pandemic without theatre.
Viewers and performers alike voiced their excitement to be back, despite having to abide by COVID-19 rules while at the theatre.
“I was comfortable, I was comfortable,” audience member Zana McDowell said. “It’s kind of weird being spaced out like that, but, you know, we got to do that because of the pandemic.”
The theatre’s owner Jordan Roth said it was “the beginning of coming home.”
