Oprah-endorsed Brazilian faith healer gets 99 more years for multiple rapes.

Self-Proclaimed Faith Healer Sentenced to 99 Years for Sexual Crimes

João Teixeira de Faria, also known as “João de Deus” or “John of God,” has been handed a 99-year prison sentence for multiple sexual crimes, according to Agencia Brasil.

Faria gained international recognition for his alleged healing abilities and even had media personality Oprah Winfrey as one of his followers.

However, in December 2018, a scandal unfolded when more than 300 women came forward to accuse Faria of sexual abuse after seeking his spiritual guidance, as reported by CNN.

One year later, he was sentenced to 19 years in prison for raping four different women. Since then, more cases have emerged, leading to the recent 99-year sentence involving eight victims abused between 2010 and 2018.

Faria’s total combined prison sentence now amounts to 370 years, nine months, and 15 days, as reported by Metropoles.

In addition to the prison sentence, Faria has been ordered to pay compensation for moral damages to the eight victims. His attorney has stated that he intends to appeal the decision.

Furthermore, an activist who helped bring Faria to justice accused him of running a “sex slave farm” for a baby trafficking operation. Sabrina Bittencourt claimed that young girls were held captive and raped to produce babies, which were then sold to childless couples worldwide, as reported by the U.K.’s Daily Mail.

Tragically, Bittencourt died shortly after making these allegations, but there have been questions raised about the circumstances of her death, with some suggesting she may still be alive, as reported by the Columbia Journalism Review.

The shocking revelations surrounding Faria’s crimes have sent shockwaves through Brazil and the international community, tarnishing the reputation of a man once hailed as a healer.
