‘Boy Meets World’ actor remembers ‘unsettling’ encounter with executive as a child

“Boy Meets World” Star Danielle Fishel Opens Up About Disturbing Experience as a Child Star

Former “Boy Meets World” actress Danielle Fishel recently shared a shocking encounter she had as a young star on the show. Reflecting on the incident, Fishel now realizes how inappropriate it was.

During a recent episode of the “Pod Meets World” podcast, Fishel discussed the sexualization she experienced as a teenager on the popular ABC 90s sitcom, as reported by Fox News.

Recalling the incident, Fishel revealed, “I had people tell me they had my 18th birthday on their calendar. I had a male executive — when I did a calendar [shoot] at 16 — and he specifically told me he had a certain calendar month in his bedroom.”

Although initially taken aback, Fishel explained, “At that time, although the first thought when I heard that was a little like, ‘Oh,’ the immediate thought after that was ‘Yes because we are peers, and this is acceptable… and this is how you relate to peers.’”

As a teenager, Fishel always wanted to be seen as an adult and craved adult male attention. However, she now realizes that being openly discussed in a romantic, male-gaze sense at such a young age was completely inappropriate.

The former “Girl Meets World” star admitted that this kind of attention affected her relationships for years, leaving her with poor boundaries and no expectations of how she should be treated.

It wasn’t until her late 30s that Fishel realized the impact this experience had on her. She acknowledged, “I’ve had failed relationship after failed relationship, and I could easily point the finger and be like that’s because this guy was this, and this guy was this, but at the end of the day — I’m the one doing the selecting and I’m the one picking these people.”

She added, “I didn’t really process how it affected me as a teenager — or how it affected me in my 20s or even in my 30s — up until the last few years.”
