A 16-year-old boy went missing while swimming in the potomac River near Great Falls Park. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue dispatched Swift Water Teams around 6:15 a.m. to search for him,with unclear details about whether he was swimming late at night or early in the morning. The incident follows a recent case where a 20-year-old college student also drowned in the same area. Experts note that water-related deaths tend to spike during heat waves, with this week experiencing unusually high temperatures exceeding 80°F even in the mornings. the ongoing search highlights the dangers of swimming in natural waters during hot weather.


A 16-year-old boy has gone missing while swimming in the Potomac River by Great Falls Park.

David Pazos, a spokesman for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service, said Swift Water Team units were dispatched to the area for a missing person in the water at around 6:15 a.m. It’s not clear if the boy was swimming late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning.

“Initial reports were the male was with a group, this male entered the water and did not resurface. Water Teams are actively searching,” Pazos said in a post on X.

The incident comes shortly after a 20-year-old college student was found dead after going missing while swimming in the same area.
