Bowman defends counter-demonstration to MTG’s protest outside Trump arraignment

Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) defended his role in counter-demonstrations outside former President Donald Trump’s Manhattan arraignment earlier this month that clashed with Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s (R-GA) rally protesting the indictment.

When Greene, a fervent Trump supporter, declared her intention to demonstrate outside the Manhattan court where the former president was facing hush money claims, it garnered attention. GOP opponents held a counter-protest in the same location after hearing the news, including liberal New Yorkers like Bowman and other liberal central lawmakers. Before being escorted away by law due to security concerns, Greene was hardly able to speak to the masses for less than ten minutes.

As Greene’s’s car was being driven away from the chaotic scene, Bowman was seen yelling,” Get out of here, get the hell out here ,” before turning to the reporters and urging them to” talk about the truth.”

Bowman declared to the throng of authorities, media, and protesters,” We will never accept nasty rhetoric in our place.” We are retaliating against any language that is contentious or elevates white supremacy in all of its forms.

Marjorie Taylor Greene, she should take her back to Washington and take action against gun violence, affordable healthcare, youth hunger, and climate change, he continued. Marjorie Taylor Greene,” Do your freaking job.” You don’t need to be talking that bullshit in New York City. Return to your neighborhood. Why are you in this place? You’re’re here for politics, vice president, fundraising, your own nonsense, and other reasons.

Bowman responded,” First of all, I was upset that she would sometimes stop, because she’s’s coming for political theatre and to help with her charity ,” when asked about the incident during a Saturday appearance on MSNBC.

He continued,” For her, it’s’s about theater because it was the day of the Trump arraignment.” It’s’s about going viral, really. I’ve’ve heard she wants to be the VP nominee, and it’s’s about raising money.

Trump was charged with crimes for the first time by a former president of the United States this month by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg in connection with the calm capital case.

Michael Cohen, Trump’s former lawyer, testified before Congress in 2019 that he paid Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, $130,000 during the 2016 campaign to prevent her from going public about an affair she claimed to have with Trump in 2005. Cohen, who pleaded guilty and served time over the alleged payment, told lawmakers Trump reimbursed him in monthly installments.

Trump has vowed to refute the accusations and denied any wrongdoing. On social media, he has already made Bragg and the judge in charge of the case his goals while denouncing the accusations as irrational and socially inspired.

The investigation has been denounced by Greene on numerous occasions as an” illegal monster kill.”
