Border Evasion? Here Are The Places Kamala Harris Has Gone Instead Of The Border

On March 24, Joe Biden announced that “Vice President Kamala Harris will be the White House’s point person on immigration issues at the nation’s southern border.”

Biden tasked her “with stemming the rising tide of migrants, many of them unaccompanied children, arriving in the U.S.,” according to Politico.

“I can think of nobody who is better qualified to do this,” the president said.

In the weeks that have followed, Kamala Harris has yet to visit the border. She has, however, found time to address other apparently more important issues.

Here is a breakdown of meetings and events Harris has managed to attend as the border crisis — which is apparently hers to solve — continues to unfold.

March 25 — Virtual Passover Celebration

On March 25, one day after being announced as the “point person” on the border, Harris joined her husband, Doug Emhoff, in what the White House called a “Virtual Passover Celebration.”

“Next year in person!” she quipped on Twitter.

According to the New York Post, on March 26, “Harris traveled to New Haven, Conn., with Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona to visit a Boys & Girls Club to talk about how the coronavirus relief plan affects child poverty and education.”

According to the Hartford Courant, Harris visited Connecticut to “highlight the Biden administration’s plans to strengthen the child care system and pull millions of American children out of poverty.”

The New York Post added that Harris also took part in an “empowering women and girls” webcast with former President Bill Clinton.”

As the New York Post noted, “On Monday, March 29, Harris joined the president when he delivered remarks about the administration’s COVID response and vaccine rollout.”

April 1 — Zoom call

On April 1, Kamala Harris joined a video call with the founding members of the COVID-19 Community Corps, an organization “working to promote COVID-19 vaccine confidence, encourage prevention, and support our partners’ efforts to reach their communities.”

That same day, Harris also had lunch with Biden and “attended the first Cabinet meeting.”

April 4 — California for Easter

On April 4, Harris returned to her home in California to celebrate Easter, tweeting that we are “celebrating hope and faith in renewal.”

April 5 —Visits Oakland

As reported by KQED, “Kamala Harris visited her hometown of Oakland for the first time since becoming vice president.”

“While love was in the air at speeches made across the Bay Area on Monday, Harris used the backdrop of the working-class East Bay to tout President Biden’s $2 trillion American Jobs Plan, the administration’s latest “go big” package before Congress,” KQED added.

April 6 — Chicago bakery

On Tuesday April 6, Harris visited a bakery in Chicago, “coming away with a piece of German chocolate cake,” reported Fox News.

“Harris was in the Windy City, where she toured a vaccination site that opened to union workers. She also visited Brown Sugar Bakery on the city’s South Side, where she met with owners and employees,” Fox added.

“She could have gone to a million other places, but she came here, and I’m grateful for that,” one employee told ABC7.

April 20 – Derek Chauvin address

On April 20, almost one month since being put in charge of the border crisis without once visiting the border, Harris joined Biden to “address the nation on the verdict in the trial of Derek Chauvin.”
