Bolton Says Grand Jury Indictment Could Serve as ‘Rocket Fuel’ for Trump’s 2024 Campaign

Former National Security Adviser, John Bolton, said that an indictment of former President Donald Trump could fuel Trump’s presidential campaign when he runs for the White House a third time. Bolton told CBS News on Sunday that he is not worried about Alvin Bragg hurting Donald Trump, the Manhattan district attorney who secured the indictment from a grand jury, but that he is worried about Bragg benefiting Trump. Bolton explained that if Trump is acquitted or the case is dismissed due to insufficient legal requirements, it will be rocket fuel because he will claim that he has been vindicated from the political persecution. Bolton served in the Trump administration from April 2018 to September 2019, and he believes that if the former President gets convicted, it would diminish his chances to win a third term.

Bolton said that most Americans would not want a convicted felon as their President.

Trump

Although the specific charges against Trump are unknown, they are believed to be related to his involvement in funding $130,000 to Stormy Daniels during his 2016 campaign for the presidency.

Trump criticized Bragg and New York Supreme Court Justice Juan Merchan, who will arraign the former president on April 4.

Since the indictment was publicized, Trump has increased his lead over Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis in 2024 election polls. A poll conducted by McLaughlin and Associates, which surveyed 1000 likely general election voters over two days ending April 1, revealed that Trump defeated DeSantis 51% to 21%. However, 47% of the respondents indicated that Trump would not receive a fair trial in New York City, while only 37% argued that he would.

Many Republican lawmakers have criticized the case as being politically motivated and expressed their support for the former President.

Bolton and the Republican Party

Bolton said he is “still considering” a White House run in 2024, and he lamented the fact that many Republicans continue to support Trump. He referred to Trump as a cancer in the party, which would require Republican support. He argued that the way to save the Republican Party, and the country, is not to make Donald Trump the Republican presidential nominee, but they can be concerned about poor Donald Trump being mistreated by this prosecutor as they want.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) will join the New York Young Republican Club for a “peaceful protest of Alvin Bragg’s heinous attack” on Trump on April 4.
