Blue-State Paradise: New York Police Leader and Ex-Con Husband Helped Gang-Banger Son Plan, Execute Failed Hit Job, According to Authorities

Crime families aren’t new in New York, but when the mother is a deputy police commissioner, it’s definitely a new twist.

Mount Vernon, New York, a city in Westchester County just north of New York City’s borough of The Bronx, was rocked this week by a criminal complaint that accused a high-ranking official in its police department of helping her gang-banging son try to assassinate a rival, according to the New York Post.

Now, she’s on the other side of the criminal justice system.

According to the newspaper, until her arrest on Tuesday, 49-year-old Jennifer Lackard was hauling in more than $138,000 per year as a deputy police commissioner in Mount Vernon — in charge of something called the Wellness Division.

Lackard is accused of conspiring with her son, Chase, and husband, James, in attempting a murder on June 29 outside Bronx Criminal Court in New York City.

Lackard drove the family Chrysler Pacifica to the courthouse, according to the New York Post, then left the vehicle with her son, apparently to case the place.

When they returned to the vehicle, the father was in the driver’s seat. James got in the back seat and Lackard was in the passenger seat.

James then fired out the rear window at a rival drug gang, but failed to hit his target.

The family then sped off, with Jennifer and James switching seats so Jennifer could act as the getaway driver, the New York Post reported.

Jennifer and Chase Lackard were arrested Tuesday morning at their home in Mount Vernon.

James Lackard, an ex-con with a prison past for dealing heroin, was at large and thought to be out of the Empire State.

All face charges of “attempted murder, conspiracy and reckless endangerment,” according to the New York Post report.

How, exactly, Lackard got her job with the Mount Vernon Police Department wasn’t clear. She had no experience as a police officer, the New York Post reported, but that didn’t stop her from winning the Wellness Division appointment in 2022.

A report at the time on the cable station News12 Westchester called the “Wellness Division” an effort to “divert the most vulnerable from the prison system.”

Mount Vernon Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard bragged about the division in a speech promoted by the national Democratic Mayors Association.

Well, it’s apparently not working so well when it comes to the family Lackard.

According to the New York Post, young Chase Lackard’s involvement with criminal justice goes back to 2024 when he was charged with pointing a Glock at police officers. (He got shot twice in the leg for his trouble and was charged with criminal use of a firearm and menacing a police officer.)

He also managed to survive a 2023 shooting in the chest, which took place aboard a city bus and was allegedly prompted by his flashing gang signs at other boys on the bus, demanding to know their gang affiliation, and even attempting to drag one of them off the vehicle.

Aside from the apparent almost humorous indestructibility of young Mr. Lackard, and the brutal irony of a high-ranking police official in charge of “wellness” being charged with helping her son attempt to commit murder outside a courthouse, the Lackard arrest has serious implications.

Damon K. Jones, publisher of Black Westchester Magazine and a professional with a 33-year law enforcement career with the Westchester Department of Corrections, told the New York Post the incident highlights Democratic dysfunction — and is an embarrassment to black Americans everywhere.

“I am embarrassed as a black law enforcement officer to see the dysfunction in a city that has a black mayor, a majority of black city council, a majority black police department that we have to see continuing dysfunction and just foolery in an organization that should be so professional,” Jones said, according to the New York Post.

He said Lackard never should have been appointed in the first place.

“Unfortunately, we see this with Democrats that they put people in positions — especially in law enforcement positions — that they shouldn’t be there,” Jones added.

Mount Vernon’s allegedly murderous family might be an outrageous example of Democratic incompetence that veers into the criminal, but it’s far from the only one.

It’s just across Mount Vernon’s border in New York City, where Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s reign of error continues to worsen daily.

It’s in Albany, the capital of the blue state paradise of New York, with a leftist Gov. Kathy Hochul and super-leftist legislature in charge.

It’s in cities and counties and states across the country, where the increasingly unhinged Democratic Party continues its leftward drift.

And come the November midterms, it’s up to American voters to put a stop to it.
